The Circle Line

My story’s an open book.

My dad died by suicide when I was seventeen. And I wasn’t there for him; I couldn’t save him. And two of my friends from uni died from suicide, and last year, my best friend also. And I just think it’s the crisis of our time. Mine’s just one story out of hundreds of millions.

I think this is disproportionately affecting the people who are in the bottom billion, and in low to middle income countries.

For the country to progress, for the economy to develop, and for society to change, we need to address mental health. If you don’t have mental health, you don’t have health. You don’t have a workforce, an economy, or a society.

Being an activist and connecting with people on a deeper level about mental health actually helps my mental health. It’s one of the ways I address my own issues with anxiety or depression. When I become hopeless at the state of the world, the harder I try to support other people working in mental health.
